With his unconventional way, he self-invented some strategies that are new to Guyana, creating a model farm in an effort to extend and preserve the life of his pigs.

He has invented his own version of the ‘farrow crate’ for both mother and piglets, and also created a gestational section for the comfort of his pigs.

She produces top-quality honey in different flavours, and her target market is for export and tourists, with her produce being sold at the Santa Aratak Gift Shop — a space where all local produce by women is retailed.
DeCambra, a single mother, had lost hope of restarting her small beekeeping business when a devastating wildfire last year completely destroyed her hives in the savannah of her village.

Grateful for growth – Triumph Farmer Builds a Model Pork Enterprise https://glda.gy/grateful-for-growth-triumph-farmer-builds-a-model-pork-enterprise/ https://glda.gy/grateful-for-growth-triumph-farmer-builds-a-model-pork-enterprise/#respond Fri, 12 Sep 2025 14:43:36 +0000 https://glda.gy/?p=2588 AT the backlands of Triumph, East Coast Demerara, David “Davo” Sital has turned adversity into achievement, establishing one of the most respected small-scale swine operations in the area. Known for his attention to hygiene, record-keeping, and the production of quality pork, his farm today stands as both a family legacy and a model of resilience.

Sital comes from a generation of swine farmers — his grandparents raised pigs, and he has continued in their footsteps. “I grew up seeing what pig farming meant to my family, and I always wanted to improve on it,” he explained. This commitment is reflected in the meticulous farm records he maintains, documenting breeding, feeding, health management, and sales. The system not only strengthens efficiency but also ensures transparency for regulators and buyers.

The programme is designed to improve the genetic makeup, resilience, and productivity of cattle herds nationwide—critical components of Guyana’s contribution to CARICOM’s “25 by 2025 plus 5” food security agenda.
